Dry Eye

What is Dry Eye?

Our vision and eye health are dependent on our tear film, which is comprised of a mucin layer, a water layer, and an oil layer. Some of us do not make enough aqueous tears for the water layer, and many of us do not make enough lipid tears for the oil layer of the tear film, which results in dry eye disease.

What Causes Dry Eye?

Factors that cause progression of dry eye disease include computer/digital device use, diet, age, contact lens wear, eyelid hygiene, tobacco use, vaping, and many others.

Common Symptoms

Almost every adult has experienced symptoms of dry eyes. However, not everyone experiences discomfort. Symptoms include:

Burning

Stinging

Watery Eyes

Blurred Vision

Dry Eye Technology

At Nova Vision Center, we prioritize a comprehensive approach to dry eye care by leveraging advanced technology focused on identifying and addressing the root cause of the condition rather than merely managing symptoms. Our cutting-edge diagnostic tools enable us to thoroughly assess factors contributing to dry eyes, such as meibomian gland dysfunction or inflammatory issues. By pinpointing the underlying causes, we can tailor precise and effective solutions for each patient, ensuring a more targeted and sustainable approach to dry eye management. Our commitment lies in delivering personalized care that goes beyond surface-level relief, aiming for long-term solutions and improved overall eye health.

Treatment Options

PUNCTAL PLUGS
Tear ducts can be plugged with tiny absorbable plugs to reduce tear loss. By partially or completely closing your tear ducts, it can keep your tears from leaving your eye too quickly.

PRESCRIPTION EYE DROPS
Another effective and targeted solution for alleviating dry eye symptoms is by providing specialized formulations to address underlying causes and promote lasting relief.

The Role of Light Colors in LLLT for Dry Eye Relief:
LLLT utilizes distinct light colors, each with unique benefits for dry eye treatment:

Red Light (630–660 nm):
  • Reduces inflammation and oxidative stress.
  • Stimulates cellular energy (mitochondrial activity) to promote natural healing in the meibomian glands.

Blue Light (400–470 nm):
  • Offers antimicrobial benefits by targeting bacteria on the eyelids and skin, reducing eyelid margin inflammation.
  • Improves overall eyelid hygiene, essential for managing conditions like blepharitis.

Yellow Light (570–590 nm):
  • Targets abnormal blood vessels, reducing vascular inflammation and irritation around the eyelids.
  • Enhances tear stability by improving blood flow and oxygen delivery to tissues.

Infrared Light (800–850 nm):
  • Penetrates deeply to improve blood circulation and stimulate tissue repair in the meibomian glands.
  • Promotes long-term improvement in tear production and overall gland health.
